In what appears to be (hopefully) the beginning of a prolonged ‘outbreak of common sense’, Sandwell MBC have agreed to insert three speed bumps in the road/path which runs through Langley Park.
UKIP were contacted on Friday 21st November by the Chambers family, who passed on the excellent news that work to insert the three new ‘sleeping policemen’ is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 22nd/23rd November
Once complete, these should eliminate any possibility of future vehicles travelling at excessive speed along the road / ‘track’, and permanently remove any associated dangers to park users and their pets. Please see blog of 21st October – The Langley Park ‘Autobahn’ Who Knew?!
Insertion of these speed bumps represents the end of a long battle with Sandwell Council for the Chambers family, and a number of other people, but “alls well that ends well”.
We have no idea whether UKIP’s involvement played any part in influencing the Council’s decision finally to carry this much-requested work out, or perhaps it’s simply down to the fact that there are more ‘locals’ and a General Election taking place in May 2015.
Quite frankly we don’t care… it’s simply a victory for common sense, and both park users and their pets, will unquestionably be safer as a result of it.
Note:
We understand that a change has taken place in personnel in the Langley Neighbourhood Police team, consequently it has not been possibly to determine whether a previous, slightly strange phone call received by Mrs Chambers, did in fact emanate from someone in the Langley team or not.
However it has been confirmed that no ‘Harassment’ charges are going to be pursued against her, or anyone else, with respect to video recording speeding vehicles.
Just in time for the forthcoming Festive Season, a real spirit of ‘Peace and Harmony’ seems to be prevailing in Sandwell, long may it remain…
